(April 2013 - Feedback from a principal to Joanna Runkles, Secondary Instruction and Communications Coordinator and FYTA Leader, Levelland ISD) I have gotten so much positive feedback from the First Year Teachers Academy from my new teachers summative assessments. I just thought you would enjoy seeing the fruits of your labor. Read below:
“FYTA gave me so much information that i was able to implement into the classroom such as classroom management that works, stations, organization, handeling the most extreme behavior issues, personality traits, time management, teaching tools and techniques and much more”
“During New Teacher Academy we were able to learn new strategies while dealing with students who are ADD or ADHD. I was able to implement a few of those strategies that were very positive and successful with my students. We also discussed how to deal with parents in a positive way. We talked about how to address certain situations to where the parent still felt comfortable, and everyone could move in an upward direction”
“First year Teacher Academy has been helpful in guiding me through my first year of teaching. I was able to use what I learned to effectively recognize learning styles and adapt my lessons to accommodate all types of learners. FYT has taught me different approaches to classroom management.”
“First Year Teacher Academy was a great way to meet other 1st year teachers and talk about their struggles and learn how others may be handling discipline problems or lesson planning struggles.”
Anyway, just wanted you to know that you are doing great things and these teachers appreciate you!
Way to go, Joanna!
Dear Ginger, I just wanted you to know that your training has inspired me back into the classroom to work with those in the greatest need of love and a coach who believes in them:) When I attended your training I was on a career path leading to administration but being reminded of what teaching is and what a genuinely caring and supportive teacher can do I had a change of heart and have returned to my first love....kids and literacy. I can't wait to present your materials to the new elementary teachers in our district...I have no doubt that I'll be able to pass on the inspiration you so thoughtfully provided for us. I've chosen to go with a restaraunt theme as a way to display the FYTA menu for the year as well provide each day's agenda as "Today's Specials." I have created one large "menu" with each of the FYTA categories and "the price" we pay as teachers for each and at the bottom is says..."the difference you make in a child's life...PRICELESS." The tables will be adorned with tablecloths, a flower....etc...to add an atmosphere of warmth and welcome. I just wanted you to know that you made a difference in my life and in many others:) God Bless, K. S.
